DAY 1-3 Moscow

Welcome to Moscow – the heart of Russia! You will have bus city tour, lunch on the Moskva River (guided boat ride + buffet lunch) and ability to take optional excursions.
Moscow is important for all Russian people. because it is a political, economical, scientific and cultural center. Moscow is one of the world’s richest and most dynamic cities. It is famous for the notorious former KGB headquarters and the White House, the Red Square with its colorful St. Basil’s Cathedral and Kremlin which was constructed in 1147 to defend the city from the Mongols and the Lithuanians. The Kremlin is a symbol of political power in Russia. It was residence of the Tsars and Soviet rulers, Nowadays Russian leaders usually use the Kremlin for official ceremonies.


DAY 4 Uglich

Uglich – is one of the oldest and remarkable cities of our country. Uglich is the treasure of Russian cultural heritage and traditions. According to the legend, Uglich was founded in 937 by a certain Yan Pleskovich, who had come to this land to collect tribute. The end of XVI and the beginning of XVII centuries are known as the hardest time for the town. In 1591 a tragic accident took place in Uglich – prince Dmitry was killed here under some mysterious circumstances. There was a rumor in the town that it was Godunov’s people handwork. Until 20th century Uglich practically did not develop. Since 1930s big industrial enterprises were built in the town. Uglich became a river port, its population increased; new residential areas appeared in the town. Now Uglich is not only a historic town but an important industrial center.


DAY – 5 Yaroslavl

Yaroslavl is the Administrative Center of Yaroslavl region and one of Russia’s oldest cities. In 2010 the city celebrated its 1000 anniversary of foundation. The historical center of the city located between rivers Volga and Kotorosl belongs to UNESCO’s world heritage. It was found about in 1010 by Prince Yaroslav the Wise at the bank of Volga River, but the first mention in the chronicles was in 1071. In the 17th century Yaroslavl was the biggest trade Russian city, notable for textiles. Yaroslavl possesses many beautiful masterpieces of medieval wall painting connected with the life of the people and their everyday life. A real pearl of ancient Russian architecture, which we will see during our city tour, is Ilya the Prophet Church. This simple in form, strict and solemn church with 5 cupolas is extremely beautiful.

Kostroma

Kostroma is one of the cities of all-known “Golden Ring of Russia”, a major linen-milling and textile machinery center. Founded in 1152 by Yuri Dolgoruky, it was the capital of a principality in the 13th and 14th centuries. It became an important commercial center after it was annexed by Moscow in 1364. By the end of the 17h century Kostroma became the third biggest town in Russia. It was an important cultural and commercial center. City is famous for magnificent monuments of old architecture and has a rich history. Nowadays Kostroma is calm provincial town rich in magnificent monuments of old architecture such as Ipatyevsky monastery founded at the end of 13th century and located in a beautiful place, where the Kostroma river flows into Volga, the powerful structure beautifully ornamented and decorated the St. Trinity Cathedral of Convent.


DAY – 6 Nizhniy Novgorod

Nizhni Novgorod is the third largest city of Russia with increasing economics. In contrast to Moscow and St. Petersburg, where a huge number of Westerners concentrated, Nizhni Novgorod can be called ‘the most Russian city’ because of its architecture and atmosphere. Founded in 1221 by Yuri II at the confluence of the Oka and the Volga rivers, Nizhni Novgorod has been an economical and cultural center of the vast Volgo-Vyatsky region. In 1932 the city was named in honor of writer Gorki bared the name till 1990. Being a very important industrial center of Russia, Nizhni Novgorod was closed for the foreigners. Now the local government is restoring its historical and cultural places. An interesting part of the cultural life and historical heritage is the Kremlin – a major stronghold for border protection of Russian state during the ancient times. A great number of historical, architectural and cultural monuments influenced UNESCO adding Nizhni Novgorod to the list of 100 cities with great historical and cultural value.


DAY – 7 Cheboksary

Cheboksary, the capital of Chuvashia is situated on the river Volga. Cheboksary, or Chuvash Shupashkar, has existed since the middle of 15 century and After Chuvash Territory had been joined Russia in 1555 voluntarily, the fortress was build here for protection for eastern border. While staying in the city one can see incredibly clean streets, breathtaking cathedrals and meet nice people. The city is famous for its churches (25 churches and 4 monasteries), and the Cheboksary beautiful bells are known even in London and Paris. Nowadays Cheboksary is a unique city, where both ancience and modernity are interesting and Russian and Chuvash cultures supplement each other.


DAY – 8 Kazan

Standing on seven hills, like Rome, Kazan is one of the biggest and most important cultural and industrial centers on the Volga river. Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, is called ‘Pearl of the Central Volga Region’. During the city tour you will see the impressive and majestic Kul Sharif Mosque, the most valuable architectural ensamble of Peter and Paul Cathedral, Kazan Kremlin which is added to UNESCO world heritage, the most remarkable building of the Kazan Kremlin Suyumbika Tower. When Tsar Ivan the Terrible came to Kazan, he was fascinated by its magnificent breathtaking architecture.


DAY – 9 Samara

The first mention about Samara appeared in official documents in 1586 during the reign of Fedor Ioannovich. The city was founded as a fortress to protect Russian border. Samara is a multi-cultural and multi-confessional city: there are a lot of Orthodox churches, monasteries, old believers’ churches, mosques, Jewish choral synagogue, Catholic and Protestant churches. Of course, the great interest generates Stalin’s Bunker; this is the most fortified bunker within a depth of 37 meters. Nowadays Samara is Russian industrial and important cultural center with multinational population and dramatic history, which you will get acquainted with during our city tour.


DAY – 10 Saratov

Saratov fortress was founded by the Tsar Ivan the Terrible in 1590; it is the hometown of the world’s first cosmonaut - Yuri Gagarin. Saratov is a multi-functional center with a lot of industrial, cultural and educational institutions. In the beginning of 19th century Saratov city became an important river port. The most significant and of the most interest are Art Museum, the Dramatic Theatre, the “Lime Tree Park”, the calm pedestrian Kirov street, St. Trinity cathedral.


DAY – 11 Volgograd

The city of Volgograd, former Stalingrad, was founded more than 400 years ago. It’s hard to overestimate its cultural and historical heritage. It is famous for the museums devoted to heroic participation of the city in World War II. You will visit the Mother Russia monument dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad, glorifying those who fought and died on Mamaev Mound.


DAY – 12 Sailing

Have a good time on board, enjoy the picturesque landscapes and entertainment on board, including Captain farewell dinner and gala concert.


DAY – 13-14 Astrakhan

First mention of Astrakhan was dated to the XIII century. Founded by the Tatars, now it is a multinational city where one can find orthodox temples, Armenian-Georgian churches, Catholic, a mosque, a synagogue. Astrakhan port is one of the most important ports in the country. This city, which is famous for variety of fish, is rich in sturgeon and exotic plants. During the visit you will see Astrakhan’s Kremlin, which was built from the 1580s to the 1620s by masters from Yaroslavl. Included: The transfer to the airport is included.
